SEVEN INSIDER TIPS FOR A SMOOTH HOUSE MOVE
1. HOW TO SELECT YOUR MOVING DAY
When you talk to your solicitor make it clear that you dont want to move on a Friday. This is the most popular day and so it is the busiest for your removal company. Your chosen company may not be able to fit you in and you may be panicking to find a company at short notice,
Most removal companies will welcome a move at the beginning of the week as easier to plan for all concerned.
2. THINK ABOUT PACKING
There are three options for packing all of your goods. You can do it yourself, you can get your removal company to do it or you can opt for a Fragiles Only pack for your most precious items.
If you opt to do your own then allow lots and lots of time. To make the task easier look to do maybe three boxes each evening, this way it can be fun and you will pack around 20 boxes per week.
3. CHILDREN AND PETS
Moving day is a day that is not like any other. Children and pets know the household and the routine that it operates under. Children can become excited and overwhelmed, and with the crew going in and out carrying heavy items it is not the usual safe household that they are familiar with. Doors will be left open for access and therefore it is less safe for them.
Arrange for both children and pets to be cared for away from your house on moving day.
4. WHERE DID I PUT THAT ? DON’T LOSE THINGS
On moving day put anything you dont want the removal lorry to take into your car. Get a small box and put in it any paperwork you may need, wallet, phone, charger leads, car keys and anything else that you need to keep with you. Anything unattended in the house is likely to be loaded onto the lorry.
5. TEA, COFFEE OR CHAMPAGNE ?
OK, maybe not champagne as it is never a good idea to offer alcohol, but tea, coffee and biscuits will put a smile on the faces of your removal crew.
For Covid19 considerations it may be worth thinking about disposable cups and spoons.
6. WHERE CAN I PARK ?
This is not what you want to hear from your removal crew.
If you think that the lorry may be able to get on your drive then contact the company to check the lorry length.
If not on the drive then the average removals lorry needs the parking space of at least three cars. Space your cars or any friendly neighbours cars so that they can save the spaces.
7. YES ! YES ! YES ! WE ARE IN.
Everything that leads up to a move plus moving day itself can be a mentally draining process, though hopefully not . You are in at last, the removal crew have left and you can shut your very own front door at last. Now is the time to breathe a sigh of relief.
If wine or beer is your thing then maybe break open a bottle to celebrate, order a takeaway and put your feet up. You have earned it.
Tomorrow is another day 😀
